Rural Development Program

SODEC implemented the Rural Development Programme (RDP), Rural Programme Nepal (RPN) and Poverty Alleviation in Selected Rural Areas (PASRA) in line with the poverty reduction strategy of the Government of Nepal in partnership with German Technical Coorporation (GTZ) from 2001 to 2009. The former programs achieved the target both qualitatively and quantitatively. As a result, PASRA activities officially ended in the year 2007 in Sankhuwasava District. However, the program has been extended for additional 9 months (January 2008 to September 2008) as the consolidation phase in order to provide sustainability to the outputs of the program, which is proposed as the fifth component of PASRA II.

The proposed consolidation activities were comprised of Social Mobilization, Economic Promotion, Rural Infrastructure Development and Strengthening of Local Service System. In general, consolidation activities were focused on linkage and networking development, capacity building and refresher trainings. Revolving fund and building construction supports are given to cooperatives and a few PLC centers to ensure their smooth running in the future. Out of 4 former implementing NGOs, only one NGO named SODEC has been hired as the consultant for the phase.

Program Components

The components of RDP were:

  1. Social Mobilization
  2. Infrastructure Development
  3.  Economic Promotion, and
  4. Strengthening the Local Service System
