Animation Program/ Livelihood and Forestry Program/DFID
SODEC conducted Animation Program across 104 Community Forestry User Groups (CFUG) in 7 Village Development Committees of Sankhuwasava District from August 2002 to July 2010 with financial partnership of Livelihoods and Forestry Program/DIFD.
The Program is expected to achieve the expected outputs:
- Internal management systems and social processes of CFUG are more equitable, gender sensitive and strengthened.
- Forest management capacity of CFUG members is improved.
Achievements of the Program
- Inception of bottom up planning process among the CFUGs through Self Monitoring and evaluation tool.
- Incorporation of CFUGs’ annual plans into local development planning process of respective VDCs and started work in collaborative way (in all VDCs).
- Mobilization of CFUGs’ idle funds for IGA through formation of women or poor groups to support improving their livelihoods. 5000+ families engaged into IGA ventures.
- Applied wellbeing ranking tool for identifying the real target group and implemented pro-poor activities and CFUGs have started to use it in other equity related initiatives.
- Starting entrepreneurial and income raising activities targeting the most vulnerable groups of the CFUGs.
- Linkage development between CFUGs and development organizations, and establishing CFUGs as the entry point of their program (e.g. Nepal Red Cross Society – CDP).
- Financial support from VDCs on CFUGs’ initiated activities.
- VDC level CFUG networks have been initiated and functioning as a good forum for sharing common issues, experiences, learning and started to address local level conflict and other relevant issues.
